REAGENTS

0.1N Sodium Thiosulphate Solution.

Citric Acid Powder

Chlorine HR Powder (Potassium Iodide Crystals)

METHOD

• Add 10cm³ of the test solution to a screw capped plain tube using the measure provided (i.e. 2 x 5cm³).

• Add a scoop of Citric Acid Powder and a few crystals of Chlorine HR Powder and shake to dissolve.

• Add 0.1N Sodium Thiosulphate Solution dropwise from the dropping bottle (which must be held vertically). It is important that the drops are added in quick succession, swirling the test jar all of the time to aid mixing. Do not pause or delay in adding the drops of 0.1N Sodium Thiosulphate through to completion of the test or inaccurate results will be obtained.

• Record the number of drops required for the brown/yellow colour to first disappear.

Note: After completing the test, the yellow/brown colour may return. Ignore this and DO NOT continue assuming this should be part of the test.

CALCULATION

ppm Peracetic Acid (As CH3COOOH) = No. drops x 15

ppm Available Chlorine = No. drops x 15.5
