The first album on the MDG label features eight soloists performing works inspired by the natural world of Japan and Germany. The album is based on the theme of a German "dialogue on nature" and features works reminiscent of German Romantic nature poetry and Japanese ink paintings. Toshio Hosokawa's "On the River" for harp solo quotes an episode in Hermann Hesse's "Siddhartha" in which a man is enlightened by listening to the sound of a river. Beyond the Blue" by Jörg-Peter Mittmann is a sound poem that is no less than Matsuo Basho's. Sue Rika Kishino writes works in which nature and beauty are interwoven. Lament" is a reflection on the tsunami and nuclear accident that struck Fukushima after the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, and is inspired by the Soma folk song "Soma Nagareyama" ("Soma Streaming Mountain"). And "Water of Life II," released in 2010, was commissioned by Ensemble Horizonte. The "voice" of Toru Takemitsu, in which the flutist emits his own flesh voice. And "Filling of the Moon" by Miyuki Ito, who writes works using a wide variety of instruments.The instrumentation is a trio of flute, harp, and viola, with Debussy's influence evident. Lastly, we have German composer Ulrich Alexander Kleppein, who reflects the sounds of the natural world in his works. Windinnres - Wucherungen," included here, was inspired by a poem by Rilke, and evokes the wind that blows through the forest, shaking the grass and trees. King International
