Description:
In the first half of the 19th century, Denmark was in the midst of a "golden age" of cultural and artistic flourishing, with composers inspired by the German Romanticism, along with the fairy tale writer Andersen and the philosopher Kierkegaard. This album contains works by three composers from that era. Kuhlau was born in Germany and immigrated to Denmark, where he is known as a concert pianist, and many Japanese piano students may be familiar with his name from his "Sonatine Album. Göse was a violinist in the Royal Danish Orchestra, and his first symphony was recognized by Mendelssohn, who took over the position of chief conductor of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra from him in 1847. Although much is not known about Barthes, he was born into a family of oboe players and contributed to the development of the oboe in Danish music. The oboe concerto recorded here is the world premiere recording of the work. It is performed by the Symphony Orchestra of Aarhus, Denmark's second largest city. The soloists are all principal players of the orchestra. Naxos Japan
