Herbert von Karajan,Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra
Description:
[Herbert von Karajan, a great conductor who reigned over the classical music world in the 20th century with his outstanding musicality and charisma. This is the first and last New Year's Concert with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra from the "Karajan's Legacy" series, which Karajan energetically worked on in his later years in the 1980s. In the Musikvereinsaal, known as the "Golden Hall," Karajan masterfully manipulated the Vienna Philharmonic to perform a series of waltz and polka masterpieces by the Strauss family. In the "Anne Frank Polka," Karajan perfectly matched the white horse dance with the sound of the strings. In "Thunder and Lightning," Karajan himself posed as if he had been shot by a pistol, and in the "Radetzky March," he even conducted the audience to clap their hands, surprising them. The stage was full of pomp and relaxation, which would be unthinkable on the usual stage of the "emperor," but here we have the best of both worlds. Performed by Kathleen Battle (S/[12]), Vienna State Opera Ballet ([10], [14]), Spanish Riding School Vienna ([6]), Herbert von Karajan (conductor), Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, recorded January 1, 1987 at the Musikverein Saal Vienna (live) *Upconverted from LD master to Blu-ray Disc. The sound source is remastered by b-sharp (planned).
