But to summarize Aretha Franklin as one of the greatest American artists of all time would be too modest. Her voice, with its multi-octave range, has touched people around the world throughout an unparalleled career spanning more than 60 years, and she is a true treasure of singer-songwriter achievement and honor that one can only imagine. Now, here is a wonderful work that encompasses her entire reign as the "Queen of Soul.The album, entitled "ARETHA," includes material from all of the labels on which she has recorded, and for the first time, it is the sum total of her career as a single work. ARETHA" will be released in three formats: a 4-CD box set containing 81 tracks, including 19 tracks never before released on CD, a CD containing 20 selected highlights from the set, and a 2-CD vinyl release. (Like the 4-CD box set, the Highlights CD is basically a collection of songs in chronological order. Highlights CD opens with her first single, "Never Grow Old," released on J.V.B. Records in 1956. It continues with her first single for Columbia Records, "Today I Sing The Blues," her biggest hit from the Atlantik period, songs like "Respect" and "I Never Loved A Man (The Way I Love You)," and songs from the Arista period The album also includes "Freeway Of Love" and the No. 1 hit "I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)" with George Michael from the Arista period.The album also includes a number of rare recordings, including a work tape of "Until You Come Back To Me," alternate versions of "Call Me" and "Rock Steady," and a live recording of "(You Make Me Feel) A Natural Woman" at The 38th Annual Kennedy Center Honors in December 2015, which is believed to be her last performance.
