The 4 Cardinal Directions, which form a Bule, are the four vectors of the Sacred Hoop or Hocoka. Then to the North where Fortitude is prayed for, along with Summer, Youth, and the Pte Oyate or the Buffalo Nation. Then to the East where Respect is given its honorable place in the life of a Lakota along with Fall, Adulthood, and the Blacktail Deer Nation. Lastly the South where Wisdom is prayed for along with Winter, Elders, the Owl and Animal Nations, and the Spirit World. This “X marks the spot” is more than where the treasure is found but where the treasure is inherently important, your soul.
