Description:

Gould Plays R. Strauss," a release celebrating the 80th anniversary of Glenn Gould's birth and the 30th anniversary of his death. In 1966, he devoted a chapter to R. Strauss in the four-part series "Conversations with Glenn Gould. In 1961, Gould made a rare recording of "Inoch Arden" for Sony Classical, and the last recording of his life was the piano sonata written by a young R. Strauss in 1982. This album is a collection of Gould's performances that could be called a tribute to R. Strauss, and includes not only the first movement of the "Burleske" and the Violin Sonata, which were never officially session-recorded, and reissued from CBC sources, but also four pieces that have never been released in any form before. A rehearsal of "Bulleske" at home around 1955 shows Gould immersed in the work while playing the orchestral part on the piano and singing, and a 1966 session with Elisabeth Schwarzkopf for a song cycle includes a recording of the previously released "Ofelia". In addition to the previously released "Ofelia Lieder", three songs from the 1966 song cycle session with Elisabet Schwarzkopf are included on this disc for the first time. Artist Profile: Born September 25, 1932 in Toronto. He made his debut as a pianist in 1946 and made his recording debut in 1955 with "Bach: Goldberg Variations". He died suddenly of a stroke on October 4, 1982 at the age of 50. He was 50 years old. Sony Music
