Description:
Czech conductor Tomáš Netopil, who came to Japan in November 2019 to perform with the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra. He is one of the most promising conductors of the next generation in the Czech Republic, currently serving as General Music Director of the Essen Opera House and achieving great things in opera. This album, his third recording with the Essen Philharmonic, features "Symphony No. 6" by Netopil, who specializes in Mahler. In this performance of Mahler's Sixth Symphony, Netopil, who has a deep relationship with the Czech Republic, looks over every detail of the work, which has a classical structure but is full of various ideas, and beautifully expresses the many dramatic ideas that reflect Mahler's vigorous creativity. The music was originally composed in 1903. The work is also closely associated with the orchestra, as it was premiered by the Essen Philharmonic on May 27, 1906, under Mahler's baton. It is recorded that the order of the second and third movements was changed at the premiere, and that they were played in the order of Andante-Scherzo, but Netopil placed the Scherzo in the second movement, as Mahler had originally intended.
