Description:
This is the first Mozart recording by Seiji Ozawa. Unlike the chamber music-like and exquisite ensemble performances of his later symphony series with the Mito Chamber Orchestra in the 1990s and 2000s, Ozawa's fresh sensibility in his 30s here unfolds in a large-format symphonic and lush expression. No. 28 is a piece that Ozawa was associated with, having performed it at the first concert he conducted with the Berlin Philharmonic (February 20, 1961, in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Japan-Germany amity). The recording with the New Philharmonia Orchestra in London is also valuable. (C)RS
