Description:
The 500th anniversary disc of the death of Hieronymus Bosch by Renaissance specialists features La Rue's Mass, a masterpiece of polyphonic music. Performed by Capella Pratensis, a male voice ensemble that has released Renaissance music by Josquin des Prez, Okegem, and others on Challenge Classics. Experienced, well-honed and stylistically beautiful singing sheds light on the masterpieces. The entire work is composed with Gregorian chant and organ improvisations to enhance the atmosphere. 2016 marks the 500th anniversary of the death of the Dutch painter Hieronymus Bosch (1450-1516), a topic that is gaining worldwide attention. This album is also being released as a tribute to him. Since Boss and La Rue were born and died close to each other, and both lived in Sjertogenbosch in the southern Netherlands, one can imagine that Boss may have drawn inspiration for his painting from this mass piece.
