The writing on the envelope is in Washington’s hand and reads:

The verso bears George Washington’s original wax seal which he applied to keep the envelope closed. The wax seal has an image of George Washington’s coat of arms aka family crest. (Interesting that it has an eagle perched above a crown with stars and stripes below.)

Reverse is dated, "G. Washington June 8 1797"
