A striking and unusual mid Victorian mourning ring, beautifully combining bold design with deep sentimental meaning. 

Created in 18 carat gold, the ring is designed in the style of a signet ring, giving it a strong and substantial presence on the hand. At the centre sits a banded agate, its natural layers of black and white creating a dramatic and elegant contrast.

Encircling the stone is a ribbon of black enamel, delicately inscribed with the words “In Memory Of.” This classic mourning sentiment frames the agate beautifully. The more you look the more you see in this ring.  The gold mount itself is richly decorated, with intricate engraving and detailing across the shoulders and setting adding texture.

CONDITION: the ring is in good antique condition with only a fine patina to the gold and enamel. As noted above, there is a base metal panel soldered inside the band which has been used to reduced the finger size during its life stye.
