Asile Limited Edition

Designed by French illustrator Elisa Denève (also known as Asile) this special Opinel knife is an art object that's utterly practical. The blade and handle are built to the same reliable spec as other Opinel No. 08 knives (see below), but the handle has an all-over print of Asile's cuddly astronauts.

This is a numbered limited edition of 8200. It's presented in an artist-designed gift box. Made in France.

Elisa, aka Asile, is a freelance illustrator and artist based in Annecy, Haute-Savoie. Asile is a universe populated by cheerful, plump individuals, colorful flora and fauna, and dreamlike landscapes. Elisa's work is a true ode to kindness, self-love, and love for others. Through her drawings, Elisa creates images filled with joy and lightness in a poetic, uninhibited, and playful style. She is interested in all forms of communication, whether for print, digital media, or crafts. 

About the Opinel No. 08:

Made in the French Alps since 1890, Opinel knives are both sophisticated and thoroughly practical. Their sharp, thin blades are great for everyday tasks like cutting an apple or opening a box. The patented Virobloc® safety ring can lock your blade in place while open (for stability and safe cutting) or while closed (so it doesn't open accidentally.)

Note the "INOX" marking on the blade; that's short for inoxydable, which means 'stainless' in French. This knife is made from Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel — an extremely high-quality Swedish alloy of steel, chrome, and no less than 0.40% carbon content for sharpness. It resists corrosion and stays sharp for a long time, so it's a great choice for everyday use.

Like all classic Opinel knives, this one folds neatly into its hardwood handle. It's made from beechwood, which resists warping and has an understated, natural look.
