Description: 1 Reales Spanish Cob, unknown Shipwreck. Environmental wear. Obverse: Jerusalem cross with lions and castles visible in lower quadrants. Reverse: Environmental wear.

History: These historic coins are known to Collectors as “cobs” and the abbreviation of the Spanish term for “Cabo De Berra” meaning cut from the end of the bar. Minted in five denominations in silver, the largest was the eight Reales, famous in the colonies and among pirates as a "piece of eight." The other denominations were four Reales, two Reales, one Reales and half Reales. 

This coin is a certified member of the “Beachcomber Series” by Shipwreck Treasures of the Keys. It has been numismatically certified as authentic to its period. These coins may be a land find coin from a private collection, discovered on a beach near a wreck site, legally recovered by a salvager but now with lost documentation.  Each coin is certified as an authentic artifact. The Beachcomber Series also allows for the creation of a database to further our understanding of shipwrecks and their contents, both locally and globally, providing an additional benefit for collectors and researchers alike.
