This species was initially described from Veracruz, Mexico, although subsequent studies have expanded its known range to include Guatemala and Honduras. It was the first arboreal tarantula described from Mexico and constitutes the most northern example of the genus. They are unique for their two-toned coloration, with the front half being black and a vibrant red coloration on legs III and IV. Their impressive looks have made them a favorite among hobbyists.
