Four years on from her acclaimed debut International LoveAffair, Tigerbalm (Rose Robinson) returns to UbiquityRecords with the thrillingly kaleidoscopic BubblegumDiscos. A bolder evolution of her globally infused nu-discosound, the album reflects a newfound confidence and adesire to collaborate with handpicked musicians andvocalists from around the world.Painted in vivid sonic colours, Bubblegum Discos showcasesTigerbalm's two great musical loves: Brazilian musicalculture and vintage dancefloor workouts from the Africancontinent, infused with nods to Italo-disco, proto-house andsoca. The album's first half leans into South American influences.'Nayar', crafted with Napoli's Giorgio Lopez, leads the waywith lightly reggaeton-inspired nu-disco, followed by theBrazilian disco rush of 'Diga Me' and the breezy samba-discoof 'Vera en Paraty'. Robinson delivers her first-ever leadvocal on the partly improvised neo-boogie workout 'CocoMakoko'. The album then pivots to Africa, with standoutcontributions from Andre Espeut, Montreal-based Haitianvocalist Waahli on the horn-rich 'Do Da Soca', andAfrobeats vocalist Idd Aziz on the body-popping'Afro-Disco'. Closer 'Conga' brings things home withheavyweight Afro-centric disco rhythms and deep dub bass.
