Kiffa beads date back to the mid-1900s and originate from Mauritania. These beads are a type of recycled glass bead, specifically a form of glass bead known as "tonbo-dama" in Japanese. They were first discovered in 1949 by ethnologist R. Mauny in the Kiffa region of Mauritania, which is how they got their name. Kiffa beads are renowned for their isosceles triangular shape with vertical stripes.
