An interesting garment, which despite being an appropriate length and cut for the time has signs of alteration to hemline which seemed odd as itherwise its very period appropriate, and seems original.

There is also some some later contrasting stitching which has been echoed to front bodice and waistline - this also confused me initially as it’s clearly commercially made, with an old size 42 label at the neckline. 

I believe what has happened is that is has been resized (rather than heavily altered in cut - shortened and taken in a little for daughter/sibling perhaps?) while retaining a typically late 20s style. 

Features a central inset front panel in cream, with radiating pintuck design at the neck and mother of pearl decorative button detail. It has set in full length sleeves ending in sweet narrow tied cuffs. 

It’s very wearable. Slightly sheer as it is a fine printed cotton lawn type fabric, you may wish to wear a slip. 

Measures:

Although bears manufacturers sizing label ’42’, it now measures a little smaller - approx a modern 10 as meant to be a little loose? Bear in mind no openings.

Condition: 

Generally very good with noted alterations, as shown. There is also a small section of side seam where the french seam has not been trimmed enough internally resulting in a little visible material - see photo - but the seam is sound. Structurally very good. 

It’s clean, strong and wearable as it comes.
