A very tactile thing, a heavily jet beaded Victorian netted shoulder capelet set on cotton lace beaded collar. Fastens with a concealed hook and eye to centre front.

The collar is a cotton lace, which is also beaded to the centre - has aged to a very dark brown.

Overall it is intact and beads appear secure (I’ve carefully moved it around, on and off mannequin etc. without any bead loss or break wage) - but as with any century and a half old thread I wouldn’t think it will withstand heavy wear - so like anything of this age I’m really selling as a collectable to display rather than an item of clothing-just to be safe. It could probably be used with caution but with that disclaimer!

There are a number of small repairs to the netting with the odd missing bead, and I noticed one missing tassel - see last photo.

Measures:

Lace section total width 3”
Fastens to 14.5” on current hook and eye fastening, could move slightly
Nape to hem (netted section and fringe) approx approx 40” around bottom edge when stretched
