1910s White Cotton Lawn Dress Edwardian Tea Frock Floral Embroidery Lace Small
Delightful and romantic white cotton, embroidered lawn dress from the early years of the twentieth century. The delicate detailing here is astounding.
The three-quarters length sleeves have upturned, scallop edged cuffs, embroidered in a white floral pattern. More such embroidery appears across the front chest, which hangs as a faux over layer on the torso, also scallop edged. The center front closes with a row of hexagonal, pearly buttons leading into the waist that closes with a hook and snaps off to the left front side. Front opening is edged in gauzy, white lace mesh, which also makes up the sailor collar, that hands across the upper the back and comes down modestly in little pointy ends across the collarbones. The mid-length skirt is gently pleated at the top while the bottom half has a scattered array of floral embroidery, and, again the lovely scallop edging! Note that this frock is semi-transparent and would have been worn over undergarments (aka a "shift").
