Arnold, Malcolm (1921-2006)
Description:
Malcolm Arnold, a modern British composer, was born in Northampton in 1921 and studied trumpet at the Royal College of Music in London. He was later principal trumpet player with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, but during a stay in Italy in 1948, he decided to devote himself to composition, and since then has written works in all genres except opera, including nine symphonies, concertos, and chamber music. He also showed his talent for film music, such as David Lean's "Bridges Over the Battlefield. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of Arnold's birth in 2021, this album presents a selection of his most famous works from his various recordings for NAXOS, including the popular "Tam O'Shanter" and a collection of English dances.
