Christian Ferre, Pierre Barbizet
Description:
Christian Ferras (1933-1982) recorded this collection of violin performances for broadcast in Hamburg in his late teens and early thirties. Their performances in the 1950s are all masterpieces in which Ferras's youthful vitality and daring self-confidence are firmly supported by Barbizet, who was 11 years older than Ferras, especially the Debussy and Franck recordings made in 1951, when Ferras was only 18 years old. In particular, in the Debussy and Franck performances, one can't help but be charmed by the freshness that was made possible only because Ferras was so young and talented. The Mozart Violin Sonata played by Ferras may not have been a commercial recording. In 1964, Ferras' maturity is evident, and his calm and collected style is enhanced. In Ravel's Tzigane, however, he and Barbizet were in a fierce pursuit at the end of the performance. The recordings are all monaural, but the sound quality is excellent for their age, as they were made by NDR, a German broadcasting company with a reputation for excellent recordings. Tobu Land System
