Description:
This is the second collection of "Lutoslawski: The Complete Symphonies" by Hanne Lintu. The two symphonies on this album are "Symphony No. 2," which was written during the period when Lutoslawski gradually broke away from his neoclassical style, and "Symphony No. 3," which was written in the 1980s, when Lutoslawski completely established his own style. Symphony No. 2 pursues a variety of sound movements by adopting a collage-like technique, and the fanfare-like melody at the beginning is captured in a wave of chaos, which turns into a violent movement in the latter half of the second movement. Symphony No. 3 was commissioned by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and although Lutoslawski began work on it in 1972, he was not satisfied with the results, and it took him 11 years to complete the work. It is a unique work that demonstrates the "controlled contingency" that sprouted in the Second Symphony (the controlled parts are accentuated by the fact that there are passages where the conductor leaves his hand and improvises). This is a wonderful recording of a remarkable performance in which Lintu's skill with complex music shines through. Naxos Japan
