Description:
The internationally acclaimed "Wihan String Quartet" will perform two modern works: Pfitzner's "String Quartet No. 2 (No. 3 if you include the unnumbered version)," composed in 1925 with a complex writing style, and "String Quartet No. 4," written in 1936 by Schoenberg, who came to America and became a professor at the University of California. Schoenberg, who became a professor at the University of California in 1936, wrote the "String Quartet No. 4" using the twelve-tone technique, and both are extremely difficult pieces. Pfitzner's melody is beautiful even in its intricacy, while Schoenberg's is sharp, with each instrument's melody clashing with the other. Both are performed with high precision by a tight ensemble.
