Description:
Bruno Weill & Capella Coloniensis! Bruno Weil, who recorded a series of Haydn oratorios with the Tafelmusik in the 90's, is now working on a new Haydn series with the Capella Coloniensis in the 2000's. Founded in 1954 in Cologne, Germany, the Capella Coloniensis was one of the first orchestras to adopt historical performance practices. Founded in Cologne, Germany in 1954, the Capella Coloniensis is known as one of the first orchestras to adopt a performance based on historical practices. In "The Last Seven Words of Christ on the Cross," German actress Anja Schiffel gives a wonderful narration from a libretto by German writer Louise Linser (1911-2002), also known as Carl Orff's wife. The music, too, is a rewarding listen, taking advantage of the tight sound that only period music can provide. Although recorded live, the recording is also very good. Tokyo M-Plus
